New York Ancestry Pat James has long been known for her publications of pedigrees from various areas of New York state. Last year she changed the name of her site to New York Ancestry, and changed the focus to supplying on-line indexes to various publications, with links to libraries to see the materials indexed, or to sources to buy it.
New York Off-line Sources: This site, coordinated by Melinda Cornwell, shows various resources available off-line for New York counties. The link takes you directly to the St. Lawrence county page. Most of the repositories listed appear to be in Central New York, though many of the resources are also available in north country libraries; it's worth checking.

Potsdam Public Museum: Civic Center, Park Street, Potsdam 13676; open Tuesday thru Saturday from 2 to 5; contains material gathered by the St. Lawrence Valley Genealogical Society
St. Lawrence County Historical Association: 3 East Main St., PO Box 8, Canton 13617; open 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday; contains many records from former town historians, maps, books, scrapbooks, picture, etc; Researchers charge $10 per research hour, plus $.25 per page for copies. Delays may be experienced if there is a large backlog. Census lookups are not generally done unless a page/family reference is given.
